Circul8 for Summer
To join a circle of like-minded spirits and spin, leap and laugh in the sun is surely the epitome of festival-going. Circul8 for Summer takes Circul8 on the road in order to share the revelry at major music festivals. As a morning salutation, an afternoon diversion or a midnight frolic, Circul8 lends itself very naturally to a festival setting.
"Never had so much fun! ;) the steps are challenging but it's a great feeling when you get it" - Ben, Glastonbury
History
|
Circul8 first summered at Glastonbury Festival. Initially, I found that surprisingly few people had even heard of traditional circle dancing, which meant that the workshops would need to spark interest very quickly to maintain everyone's attention in such a diverting context. The first workshop was so successful that the participants requested the workshop be repeated throughout the week. On the Wednesday, the uncommon heat prompted the idea of a twilight circle, and thus the revellers saw out the longest day of 2017. The success of Circul8 for Summer persuaded me to begin Circul8 for Fitness in my home town.

How it works
Workshops run for between 45 and 90 minutes, and begin with me walking participants through the steps. Once most people have the hang of it, it's time to have a go with the music. Everyone is different, and some people pick it up more quickly than others, but this all contributes to the sense of connection and companionship within the circle as each person acts as a anchor point for everyone else. Circul8 for Summer operates on a donation basis: so try before you buy, and if you enjoy it, help to keep it going!
